KEMSO circular model towards increasing environmental impacts at the 8th International FINI Conference
KEMSO circular model in the area of the Municipality of Novo Mesto and surrounding municipalities is an example of how the local community can grow and develop in the field of green and circular public procurement, thereby enabling an increase in environmental impacts. The pioneering steps of KEMSO in this field were presented at the 8th International Conference on Challenges and Solutions for Sustainable Engineering and the Green Transition, organized by the Faculty of Industrial Engineering (FINI) on November 23, 2023, in Šmarješke Toplice.
One of the significant milestones in the development of KEMSO and its impacts was the decision of the Municipality of Novo Mesto to invite all municipal public institutions to participate and join in this local circular model through a shared circular public procurement. In doing so, the municipality ensured the reuse and circulation of a specific waste fraction (beverage carton) within the local community, achieving high environmental benefits, precisely measured within the KEMSO program.
Based on the positive effects, the Municipality of Novo Mesto repeated the circular public procurement this year as well. The significance of experiences and the approach to shaping circular public procurements were highlighted in the panel discussion in the first part of the Conference by Peter Geršič and Janja Lakner from the Municipality of Novo Mesto, Jasna Dokl Osolnik from the Dolenjska Museum Novo Mesto and Matej Cerovšek from the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy, specializing in green public procurements.
